Time for an update! Since my last post, life intervened in various ways, but getting back on track is in our future.
Book News:
I am named Featured Writer of the year by the Stanley Idaho Library. I will be making a presentation at Redfish Lake Lodge at 12:30 pm on July 30 about my books, research and stories. Please come if you can. Tickets are $25 for lunch. Call 208-774-2470 to order.
My next book BASQUE MOON is set in the Stanley Basin of Idaho in the 1920s and features Nellie Burns and Moonshine again. Release date for this book is August 17, 2016. It will be available in bookstores after Labor Day. Here is a great review from Kirkus Books: https://www.kirkusreviews.com/book-reviews/julie-weston/basque-moon/
Five Star Publishing is sponsoring a book promotion of Basque Moon at Stop You’re Killing Me on August 15. Visit for a possible free book! Check out this website, too. http://www.stopyourekillingme.com/Giveaway.html
My BASQUE MOON launch will be on September 15, 2016 at The Community Library in Ketchum at 6:00 along with Iconoclast Books. Be there or be square! There will be wine and refreshments, some Stanley history, a short reading and Q&A.
Molly Gloss and John Rember gave me two great reviews/blurbs. Check out my book page under Books.
On September 10, I will be at Rediscovered Books in Boise during the Farmers Market at noon. If you haven’t been to that market, you’ve missed a great experience! Come and wander the stalls and then visit Rediscovered Books, a wonderful independent bookstore!
Seattle: University Bookstore hosts me on September 23 at 7:00 in the evening. I think we broke records last year. Let’s do it again! Nellie’s new adventure is heart-stopping and Moonshine is right there beside her. So are Sheriff Azgo and sheep rancher Gwynn Campbell. Plus new characters appear to test Nellie’s mettle.
Seattle Mystery Bookshop at noon on September 24. If you can come to this lovely little bookshop, please call in advance to reserve a copy. I will be signing books there. Last year, I tied with Louise Penny for third for most books sold during September! You all are just terrific for supporting my fiction in such a grand manner.
Third Place Books hosts me on September 27 at 7:00 at their Lake Forest Park bookstore.
In October, I will be appearing with Anne Hillerman at the Women Writing the West conference in Santa Fe. It will be a thrill to share the stage with her to talk about creativity in writing.
MOONSHADOWS, a Nellie Burns and Moonshine Mystery (Five Star Publishing, 2015) was named a Finalist in the May Sarton Literary Award, sponsored by Story Circle Network.
A blast from the past: The Good Times Are All Gone Now: Life, Death and Rebirth in an Idaho Mining Town is now available on audio! The University of Oklahoma Press issued this new format this spring. The reader sounds a lot like me. I will make an exception and recommend getting from Amazon (please go to independent bookstores for all other formats and books).
Book clubs: I love visiting book clubs and have joined two clubs by Skype—one in New York and one in Wisconsin. I also spoke at two book clubs in Ketchum this spring.
